Guide

A free link in bio for creators, freelancers and small businesses

The short version: a free link-in-bio page should put your one most important action first, your social profiles in a row of icons, and no more than five to seven links. Here's what that looks like for each kind of work.

Creators and influencers

Goal: Turn followers on one app into subscribers, listeners and customers everywhere else.

A layout that works

  1. Icon row: Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, X
  2. Latest video or release
  3. Collab or brand-deal enquiries (email or WhatsApp)
  4. Merch, presets or a course
  5. Newsletter sign-up

Tip

Change the top button with each new post, and show follower counts on your page to help brand deals (Pro).

Freelancers

Goal: Get from “nice work” to a booked project in as few taps as possible.

A layout that works

  1. Icon row: LinkedIn, Behance or Dribbble, GitHub
  2. Book a call or ask for a quote
  3. Portfolio or case studies
  4. Rates or services
  5. Testimonials or reviews

Tip

Name the button by the outcome (“Book a 15-minute call”), and use a short link with your name in emails and proposals.

Small businesses and shops

Goal: Let customers order, ask or find you without hunting through posts.

A layout that works

  1. Icon row: Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook
  2. Order on WhatsApp
  3. Shop or menu
  4. Location on Google Maps and opening hours
  5. Current offer

Tip

Print your page's QR code on packaging, bills and the counter so offline customers find you online too.

An example page

An illustrator's page on the Free plan: social icons in a row, then the four things clients and fans ask for, with booking first because it gets the most clicks.

An illustrator's mylinq page with social icons and buttons for commissions, portfolio, shop and a free brush pack
Booking first, then portfolio, shop and a freebie.

Mistakes to avoid

Too many links

Twenty buttons means nobody taps any. Keep five to seven and hide the rest.

Vague names

“Website” and “Click here” don't say what people get. Name every button by its outcome.

Dead links

An expired sale or a deleted video makes the whole page look abandoned. Check your links once a month.

Different handles everywhere

Use the same username as your Instagram or business name so people trust the link.

Questions

Is a free link-in-bio tool enough for a business?

For most small businesses, yes. Unlimited links, a QR code and basic click stats are free on mylinq. Upgrade to Pro (₹149/month) when you want your own colours, no mylinq badge, and longer analytics with clicks for every link.

Can I add my WhatsApp Business number?

Yes. Paste your wa.me link and it shows with the WhatsApp icon, so customers can message you in one tap.

Can a freelancer use it as a portfolio?

It works as the front door to your portfolio: link your best work, Behance or GitHub, and a way to book you. For a full case-study site, link to it from your page.
